THE MISSION OF PROGRAMS AND SERVICES

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. develops leaders, promotes brotherhood and academic excellence, while providing services and advocacy for our communities. In particular, the mission of the Alpha Scholarship Endowment Fund (ASEF) is to raise and distribute funds in support of scholarship, leadership, and academic excellence programs for the students of Montgomery County, Maryland.

The ASEF programs include:
​
The Black Youth Achievement Awards (BYAA), established in 1978, which recognizes minority students in Montgomery County for their academic and other achievements.
​
The Leadership Development Institute (LDI), which aims to develop a 21st Century generation of leaders.
​
Project Alpha, which is designed to provide education on issues of responsibility, relation- ships, teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases for minority males ages 12-15 years.
​
“Go-to-High-School, Go-to-College”,
which concentrates on the importance of completing secondary and collegiate education, the single best predictorof future success.
